Treasurer’s Report
Please pay dues of $30 to Julie. Last year was a break even year for
us, so there will be no increase in fees.
Steering Committee
The Steering Committee currently consists of Bron, Diane, and Julie,
with Maureen and Caroline as Associate Members. Big thanks to retiring
committee member Dolores.
We were reminded of details of the Pamela Allen class which is to be
held at our meeting site on April 17th and 18th. Please sign up as soon
as possible. Sign-ups are now open to non-members so ask your
friends. Cost is $125 for members, $155 for non-members. The
class is called “Think Like an Artist.” Pamela comes highly recommended
by those who have taken a class from her. The go/nogo date is Feb 13th.
If we do not have enough people at that time, the class will be
cancelled or the cost will go up significantly.
Proposed Schedule
Tentative Activities for our 2009 meetings were announced.
- March 7: Margaret Nevin, a sculptor and art teacher, will talk
with us about critique. Please bring a piece of work or something in
process for feedback or critique.
- May 2: Jaye will help us out with quilting technology,
particularly using tools on the web for information and social
networking.
- July 11: Linda Gass will speak (to be confirmed).
- Sept 12: Sewing Day at Always Quilting (to be confirmed).
- November 7: Recycled Round Robin in a Day, led by Maureen.
There was a brief discussion about the CQFA Mission Statement and how
it does not seem to be entirely relevant to the group at this time. No
conclusion was reached.
Business
Dolores brought us up to date on retreat details. The retreat will be
held again at the Best Western Capitola by the Sea from Fri Jan 23rd to
Sun Jan 25th. People are encouraged to come whatever part of the time
they can make it. Please be prepared to speak a little bit about what
inspires you and what you are working on. Dolores suggested Ma Maison
in Aptos for an organized Saturday dinner. Members, friends or family
are welcome to join us for dinner.

Retreat goers should make their own room reservations (831-477-0607).
Feel free to bring (1) nibbles to share, (2) fabric, books, bits and
bobs to give away (3) fabric, books, bits and bobs that you’d like to
sell and (4) items to inspire.
Diane will post our meetings to Craigslist and investigate to see if we
are on the links pages for such groups as PENWAG and Piecemakers.
Diane encouraged people to go to the free fabric distribution in Palo
Alto after the meeting.
Julie asked if we wanted to be/remain members of the Northern
California Quilt Council and it was agreed that we should.
Show and Tell
There was a fabulous show and tell with an abundance of items including
bags, Christmas ornaments, round robins, silk paintings, purses, pillow
shams, mosaic quilts and quilts of all kinds. During the Show and Tell,
Jaye told of her good experience at Always Quilting learning the
longarm. Jean announced that there will be a show of staff art at Back
Porch Fabric in Pacific Grove from Feb 8th to April 15th. Nancy shared
her excitement and trepidation at being in the middle of fifty collages
around the topic of immigration. We learned that Bonnie Smith was
interviewed by CNN about her work “Obama in Blue.”
Program
We gathered around the laptop to view the SAQA slideshow Portfolio 13.
Thanks to Julie for arranging it and being the emcee.
