After the Show and Tell, we will have a fabric swap and talk about techniques for using 'ugly' fabric.

Meeting Minutes

Diane, substituting for Bronwen, ably facilitated the meeting. It was fun to greet a few stalwart members who hadn't attended recently.

Announcements

TOPIC: SAQA SLIDESHOW
Discussion:  Bronwen apologized to the group for not scheduling the presentation.
Resolution:  Diane will talk with Bronwen about possibly showing it at Jan. 2009 meeting.

TOPIC: Hiring Pamela Allen for Workshop
Discussion: Dolores revealed that poll results indicated there were fewer than the 20 affirmative responses we needed to support the $150 price. However, several members indicated that they knew others who would be interested. One person expressed interest in a one, rather than a 2 day workshop. At the meeting we agreed that after the workshop was set up we might talk with Pam Allen about the possibility of members attending for only one day or even splitting the 2 day attendance between 2 persons.
We need a venue for the workshop April 16, 17. We are splitting Pamela's travel costs with Empty Spools.
Resolution:  At the group's urging Dolores will contact Pamela to tell her we are interested in hiring her, pending locating a venue. Between them they can decide when the final decision about booking the workshop must be made. Diane will talk to Bronwen about contacting our usual church meeting place about its availability for the dates. Nancy will see if Always Quilting rents out their work room for workshops other than those sponsored by the shop.

TOPIC: Flyer Advertising CQFA
Discussion:  Bronwen sent with Diane a mock up book mark style flyer with same text and several different members' artwork pictured. She asked for feedback. Members do want to see attribution given to artist whose work appears on flyer. Plan is to prepare flyers for PIQF in October. Thanks to Bron for doing this. The mock up looks great!
Resolution:  Members added comments to the mock ups. Diane will return the draft to Bronwen who will print.

TOPIC: January 2009 Retreat
Discussion: Dolores has been hard at work on securing the Best Western Capitola on 41st for next years' retreat. She made a deposit there. Plan is for similar format to last year. Members make hotel reservations individually. Cost around $30 for Fri. Sat. & Sun. Jan. 23,24,25. We will make advance reservations for dinner on one of the evenings. We'll each work on our own projects with breaks for brief sharing about what things inspire us artistically.
Resolution: Sign ups will be first come, first served. 16 people worked out as a good number last year.

TOPIC: Meeting Topics for 2009 Meetings
Discussion: Plans need to be made for contributing member suggestions for 2009 meetings. Thereafter, the Steering Committee will meet to finalize the program. Some thought may need to be given to identifying what the groups goals are before proceeding with the 2009 agenda.
We may be able to address a solution to this at Nov. mini retreat at Always Quilting. Alternatively, we could do a dinner meeting to socialize and clarify our goals and our 2009 agenda.
RESOLUTION: Not completely resolved

Our Show 'N Tell included an emphasis on how folks use ugly fabric. Virginia threw in some philosophy about the true existence (or not) of ugly fabric. We even swapped fabric, but not necessarily UGLY fabrics- it depends. Right, Virginia?
The final word shall go to BAGS.  And did we have bags of every dot and stripe!
