month.

Topic: Retreat
Discussion: Retreat is scheduled for January 26 and 27. Make hotel
reservations directly with the Best Western Capitola hotel for Fri. and
Saturday nights. Dolores, who's tenacity made the retreat possible, has
posted relevant information on the website. Individual
costs include hotel room, & food, plus a share of cost of the
group facilities which rent for $300 for the 2 days.
Resolution: Please remit to Julie Stiller a $20 deposit by Dec. 1 if
you plan to attend. Early birds could mail dues for next year to
Julie at the same time.
Topic: Guest Speakers/Workshop
leaders for 2008
Discussion: The group volunteered various teachers who might present
workshops useful to this group. Julie Hirota, Esterita Austin, Gudney
Campbell, Pamela Allen and Linda Gass are possibilities.
Resolution: Nancy Riffle will contact a few of the above and check
their offerings, availability, cost, etc. In addition, Diane Carver
offered to contact art teacher Katherine Bazak of Portola Valley and
Dorothy Rodall to see if they might present workshops. Steering
committee to notify Nancy and Diane of the date of their next meeting
so we can provide the committee with the information by the meeting
date.
Topic: Brochure/flyer
advertising CQFA
Bronwen and Dorothy made some progress on the flyer. Trudi formatted
some text for it. They are considering placing artwork on the flyer.
Resolution: The trio will continue working on the project.
Topic: 2008 Meetings
Resolution: Ideas generated at today's and last month's meetings
will go to the Steering Committee who will work up a schedule of events
for 2008.
Suggestions include: Something on the topic of color.
Madlyn Jones agreed to present a topic pertaining to her methods for
using dyes and resists. Debbie Wambaugh offered to present a workshop
on clipped chenille in January. Members requested information on using
untraditional materials like lutrador and tyvek and unusual treatment
of fabric, such as burning and soldering. Using untraditional
borders is another potential topic. From last meeting, buying and
selling one another's art is a possible subject. We also talked about
possibly combining an art sale with a fabric swap or sale along the
lines of the Tea N Flea Shopping Spree we had in 2005.
Resolution: Contact the steering committee members with additional
ideas.
Show N Tell included a wide
variety of items, some finished UFOs, a piece or two on our theme of
REPETITION, and even fiber art juried into a show. Both members and
guests participated.
Following lunch, Linda Kealey, a member of PENWAG and embellisher
extraordinaire, guided us in making fantasy fabrics using angelina
fibers. In addition, she presented as many additional ideas for
embellishment as there were minutes in the workshop. She
illustrated her ideas with her own clothing samples. Linda devoted the
last 15 minutes of the workshop to providing handouts and instruction
for the art of beading. Linda formerly taught a series of classes on
Embellishment at the fabric and bead store in Los Gatos called Natural
Expressions. She offered to come back and do a longer workshop on some
of the other techniques. We all created fabric projects that were
enchanting! Who went home and immediately made some more?
Special thanks to Dolores Miller for her heroic efforts arranging the
January retreat.
