Meeting
Workshop Information
After the show and tell, we will have a "exercises for art quilters"
workshop led by Virginia Schnalle. The exercises are from the book Art Quilt Workbook by Jane Davila and Elin
Waterston.

List :
Bronwyn graciously
chaired the meeting in Kathy's absence. She introduced a guest
and a couple of visitors.
Announcements:
Our retreat is still scheduled for the Best Western in Capitola in
January 2008. Final arrangements pending confirmation by hotel's
new ownership. There will be no formal program for the
retreat. Rather, each participant will bring a project to work
on. Julie Stiller offered to be a roving helper.
Another of the books in Terri Micene's quilt-themed mystery series will
be coming out shortly.
Topic: Meeting Topics for next year's meetings
Discussion: At our next meeting we will set the schedule of meeting
topics for 2008. The first of two suggestions already made is
that we do an art swap at one of our meetings so members can buy one
another's work. Some of us would also like to add a feature at
one meeting wherein we swap or sell unwanted fabric and books. We
did that in 2005 under the title, "Tea 'n Flea Shopping Spree".
Resolution: Please bring ideas for next year's meeting topics to
our November meeting where we will set up next year's calendar.
Topic: Quilt Show
Discussion: The group has not made a decision about doing or
participating in a quilt show. The Morgan Hill show is one venue under
consideration. This year's show is Sept. 29-30.
www.morganhill.org/tasteofmh/quiltshow.htm. The San Jose Museum
of Quilts & Textiles is also still a possibillity, as are other
locations.
Resolution: Table discussion of the quilt show to next year.
Topic: Show and Tell
Lots of artists, including our guest, shared their work. One
great feature of this month's show 'n tell is that artists described
their techniques in detail. We learned many great tidbits.
Did you know that you can paint housepaint on pellon, cut holes in the
pellon and use it such that the housepaint acts as a resist?
Finally, member Virginia Schnalle, with minions Terri and Maureen,
presented a useful workshop set up to teach some design principles and
to help us generate design ideas for fiber art. We executed the
exercises on paper. And we didn't have to haul yards of fabric,
notions and sewing machines to the meeting! Virginia showed us
lots of great examples to illustrate the design concepts. Many
thanks for generously sharing your expertise, Virginia! Virginia
teaches on the Art quilt at The Granery in Sunnyvale. Let's stayed
tuned at our next meeting to any textile pieces which derive from that
workshop.
