Meeting Minutes

There were 10 members and two guests in attendance. The meeting was facilitated by Bronwen McInerney.

Bronwen McInerney and Dolores Miller reported on the success of the trial run they conducted of placing CQFA info flyers at quilting venues. They put out 400 flyers and 300 remain, thus 100 people were interested enough to pick up flyers. Two of those people (Blanche Prior and Madlyn Jones) were interested enough that they attended
today's meeting as guests and by the end of the meeting they both joined CQFA as new members.

A discussion followed on possible ways to jazz up the flyer (colors, etc.) and perhaps adding a contact phone number (Bronwen McInerney and Diane Carver both expressed willingness to use their phone numbers) i.e., revisions to make to the flyer before the Morgan Hill Harvest Festival and PIQF. One suggestion was to make a post card sized version that we could send in the mail.

Possibilities for exhibiting as a group in the Morgan Hill Harvest Festival (this fall) or the Santa Clara Valley Quilt Assn. show (May) - No new information. Dolores reported that she was unsure of the number of members interested in participating, but would possibly contact Shanti Subramanyam to see where we stand currently.

May Workshop:
Bronwen reported that there were eight people in attendance at the Diana Leone workshop in which the students cut up photos and threw them down in random fashion, gazed at the result to determine a pattern, and then painted (with acrylics) their interpretation of the pattern. Diana shared some of her new work. Consensus seemed to be that it was a fun workshop.

Treasurer (Julie Stiller) Announcement:
There are still several openings in the Laura Wasilowski workshop, titled Object Lesson, on July 28. One of today's guests, Madlyn Jones, signed up for the workshop. Class description and supply list maybe found on Ms. Wasilowski's web site: http://artfabrik.com

2008:
Dolores asked members to think about 2008 and offer some suggestions for workshops, etc. to consider for 2008.

Announcement:
Several of our members, Debbie Wambaugh and Julie Stiller among them, have pieces on exhibit at the Santa Cruz Art League Fiber Art Exhibit which runs through July 29. The league's website is http://www.scal.org/.

Show & Tell:
Show & Tell was inspiring and lovely to see as usual. Bronwen took pictures of all. One of our guests, Blanch Prior even brought something to share - two lovely hand appliquéd quilt tops, which were beautifully stitched. Though our other guest, Madlyn Jones, didn't bring anything to show, she did tell us a little about the work she does, including a lot of surface design.
Dolores Miller shared with us, and passed around, a book titled "Patterns of the Earth" by photographer Bernard Edmaier. It is full of wonderful full color photographs depicting fascinating aerial views of various of the earth's surfaces -  a great source of design inspiration.

Announcements:
Bonnie Smith, a current member of the Surface Design Association announced that a piece that she submitted has been chosen to travel on exhibit for three years.

Debbie Wambaugh announced that she is now the Northern California Representative for the Surface Design Association and will be coordinating and setting up the next meeting which will be held early next year. She encouraged us to look at the organization's website http://www.surfacedesign.org/ . A good discussion ensued regarding the benefits of joining this and other similar professional organizations.

Debbie also told us about an interesting lecture/show, titled Intimate Apparel, by Linda Gass and suggested we take a look at it on Linda's website: http://www.lindagass.com/ (click on "events" to find the Intimate Apparel lecture listed.

The meeting was adjourned for lunch, to be followed by a Freeform Fabric Collage workshop led by Julie Stiller.
