Meeting
The January meeting is the kick off for the monthly
Journal Quilt project and we will also be making name badges.
January’s journal theme is flowers so bring your ideas and fabrics with
wonder under already attached or not that is up to the
individual. We will need a few irons and small pressing
boards brought to the meeting by members. I will furnish some
peltex for the badges, Shanti is printing CQFA logo printed
on fabric for all of us and hopefully we will have some pin backs
available. Feel free to bring lunch for yourself or any left over
cookies (not to be left over) to share with others.
Remember January is also membership renewal so bring your check or cash.
Bonnie J. Smith
Nineteen people attended our January meeting. Kathy acted as moderator.
Jaye shared details of the Saturday, July 28th class with Laura
Wasilowski. Please note that this is not one of our regularly scheduled
meeting days. Class will be held 9:30-5. Laura's website is
www.artfabrik.com. We will be doing the "Object Lesson" class, making
fabric to use in other projects. The cost is $55 which includes the kit
fee. This cost is partially subsidized by CQFA. The signup sheet was
passed and money collected. There are still spaces available. You must
pay to reserve your spot and the money is non-refundable, although you
may transfer it to another member, and an effort will be made to find
someone if there is a waiting list. We have committed to pay for 24
people and will open it to non-members if we do not fill. Students
should bring their own iron and ironing board or arrange to share.
Shanti will post supply list on our website and the info can also be
found on Laura Wasilowski's website.
Dolores is still investigating retreat possibilities. Some were
ruled out as too expensive.
The new member list is posted as an EXCEL file on our Yahoo group.
Annual dues, $30, are due to Julie this month.
Today's workshop is journal quilt with flowers and nametags. The
March workshop topic is up in the air. Diane will check with Diana
Leone to see if she is available for a fabric painting workshop in May.
Most members would be interested in cotton painting over silk
There were lots of interesting artworks for Show and Tell
including quilts, felted bags, bracelets, postcards, paintings, NO
reminders, and little boxes. Bonnie shared her fabric postcards that
are part of her Art2Mail swap (www.Art2Mail.com) . She noted that it
was a good way to use "Christmas shrapnel," those bits and pieces
leftover from the holidays.
Details of the Creativity Challenge were re-iterated. The Creativity
Challenge is meant to motivate members to be artful during the month.
Each month has a suggested idea to use as a leaping-off point.
January's topic is flowers. Work need not be fabric or finished. Please
bring whatever you have worked on to share. As a reminder:
February: Landscape
March: Black and White
April: Balance
May: Fun
June: Self Portrait
July: Symmetry
August: Vibrant Color
September: Leaf
October: Free for All
November: Repetition
December: Holiday
There is no movement on the idea of a CQFA show. Lynn will talk to
SCVQA and see if they are open to us being part of their show.
Bonnie suggested that it would be good to have a CQFA brochure made. It
would help drum up members.
Eleven people stayed for the workshop led by Bonnie.
