Treasurer/Membership person (Julie) reported almost $5,500 in our account. We have a little under 40 members currently with some renewing members. The membership list and yahoo group list are gradually being purged of inactive members.
Jaye reported the results of the yahoo group poll regarding whether replies to posts should go to whole group or original poster. The majority wanted to see the replies continue to be posted to whole group. Users were advised to check their own email preferences to make sure that their own responses are directed where they intend them to go.

There was a discussion of the possibility of a quilt show, possibly at the SJ Museum of Quilts and Textiles. From conversations previously held with Jane P, it is known that $3200 is needed from track lighting for the reception room where shows such as ours might be held.
Discussion ensued regarding donation to the museum to give to Jane P after her talk today. The sum of $500 was decided upon.

Shanti has posted all the photos on the website that she has received from Jaye of our meetings. Shanti is requesting that all members please send her pictures of artwork (two or three) and any info you would like posted (picture of you, mini-bio, website, etc.). She is happy to resize if needed any pictures sent, so please go ahead and send them.

Upcoming shows were announced by Julie. The California Fiber Artists will have a show this summer in Murphys. There is another show in Half Moon Bay.
Debbie announced the Santa Cruz Art League show. Deadline for entries is May 19. Show is during the month of July.

Our next meeting will be July 8th. The meeting is scheduled to be mini-workshops or group demos with various people demo-ing techniques. Stations will be set up.

The Steering Committee will be meeting immediately after today's meeting and will be discussing plans for next year, especially the scheduling of teachers and speakers. Please direct any input or suggestions to members of the Steering Committee.

Bonnie and Diane both participated in the quilt show at Synopsis. They offered that no pieces sold during the exhibition because it was mainly employees who viewed the work and access to non-employees was limited. Congratulations were offered to Bonnie who had first sale at the Heritage Museum Show in Santa Monica. Bonnie reported that it was a great experience.

Several sites/organizations were offered by various people that would be of interest to CQFA members.

Show and tell took place before and after Jane's talk, with about 22 or so total pieces.

Jane Przybysz, Executive Director of the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles, arrived and spoke at length about the history in America of what we now call Fiber Art and its evolution from being a serving art to being considered a fine art. There was a group discussion regarding the implications of the words "quilt" and "craft". Jane also explained a bit about institution building and what it takes to get projects like the museum going and keep it running.

Julie presented Jane with our donation to the museum and Jane was glad to receive it and told us that it will be matched by a grant the museum had just won that week. Jane mentioned the need for track lighting in the reception room and was interested to know if members would be willing to have a quilt show in a space that would have food and drink. In general, members felt that as long as there was disclosure this was not a problem.
