Announcements:
1.
Shanti and Rosalie Cook graciously agreed to serve as web
mistresses. Thank you!
2. Nancy Riffle and Maureen Lardie will continue to circulate meeting
minutes. Dolores Miller will serve as back up.
3. Terri Micene will act as liason to the San Jose Museum of Quilts
&
Textiles.
4. Bronwen McInerney offered to provide WELCOME services. And she
did so ably yesterday when we welcomed four guests.
5. Julie Stiller continues as treasurer in addition to her duties on
the
Steering Committee.
6. A VACANCY remains for a volunteer to provide names and faces online
of
Yahoo group members.
7. Our treasurer, Julie, pronounced our organization fiscally healthy.
We
added three new members.
8. Thanks to Steering Committee member, Jan Scardina, for taking all
the
photos we enjoyed on the website.
Topic: Fees for workshops
Discussion: The general practice has been to collect a $5 fee
payable to the treasury for member prsented workshops. Prsenters
customarily received reimbursement for materials from the treasury.
In
some cases where the presenter provides lots of materials, we've levied
a specific materials fee for the workshop. The group debated whether or
not to collect the fee on Sat.
Resolution: The group reviewed the policy but did not vote to
amend it.
Topic: Producing a members Quilt Show
Discussion: Charter member, Sarah Roberts approached
first, the
Steering Committee and next, the membership, about producing a members
quilt show.
While the group favored putting on a show, the major hurdle
voiced
was lack of a space or venue. Most everyone agreed that the lack
of
evening and weekend hours at the Mountain View City Hall gallery made
the last show relatively inaccessible to the public. Few members
wanted to return there. People suggested a number of other venues
in
the Santa Clara area, some controlled by the city. One person
also
suggested The museum of Quilts & Textiles. Sarah believes that we
need at least a one year lead time for the show date. One year
after
the site is selected.
Julie Stiller said that if a sufficient number of our members are also
AQS (American Quilt Society) members, we can be designated a chapter of
AQS. As such, we could get low cost insurance for a quilt show.
Resolution: The group would like to do a show, if a
suitable
venue is located. Sarah Roberts offered to co-chair the effort.
She
will look into some of the venues suggested. Terri Micene will
also
contact the Quilt Museum about a show. Members signed a general
list
indicating their willingness to help with the show in any capacity.
Topic: Bag of Stuff Round Robin
Announcement: Linda Cline showed the group the handsome
article
she wrote in the spring issue of American Quiltmaker. One of
Linda's
pieces that she made in a "Bag of Stuff" Round Robin is featured in the
article. The narrative accompanying the work explains that type
of
Round Robin.
Resolution: Linda has graciously agreed to make this type
of
Round Robin available to those members who would like to participate.
Anyone who brings the specified, "Bag of Stuff" to the next
meeting is
eligible. Linda will email instructions for the Round Robin to us
all
shortly. The finished quilt made from the "Bag of Stuff" will be
due
in 4-6 months.
Topic: Speaker next meeting
Announcement: Jane Przybysz, director of the Museum of Quilts
and Textiles will talk to our
group at our next meeting in Santa Clara. Terri Micene
thoughtfully
set this up. The group gave her some suggestions as to what Jane
should address when she comes. For more information about the museum
and its history, go to www.sanjosequiltmuseum.org.
We witnessed the usual amazing sharing. Members exchanged helpful
tips. Did you know that you can make mirror -like objects on your
fiber art by using silver car detailing tape? It looks like Mylar with
a sticky back and is available in auto supply stores. Once the
business meeting concluded, Maureen and Claudia did a great workshop on
postcards and nametags. And you should have seen their samples!
Wonderful!
