Jean Dunn
Jean comes from a family
of women who sewed and sewed and sewed, except for Aunt Cassie who
played bridge. Jean pursued garment design and construction at
Baker University, Traphagen School and several custom workshops in New
York City, including Brooks Costume Company where she worked on
costumes for Ringling Brothers, Barnum and Bailey! She now
includes sleep under quilts and art quilts in her life along with
wearable art. Jean teaches and lectures at guilds around the
country. When home at Monterey Bay, she is to be found at Back
Porch Fabrics in Pacific Grove, CA. teaching and selling beautiful
fabrics.
My work evolves from the fabrics I love, the lessons learned from great teachers and the 'action' that is all around. A chance remark, a noticed scene, a bit of music. Piecing is most often used, but every technique I know pops up at times.

"Our
World Has Changed"

Made for
9/11/01, "Our World has Changed" is whole cloth with raw edge
appliqué denoting the skeletons of the twin towers. Machine
embroidery adds texture to the towers. Machine quilting shows flames
throughout the background and foreground. Cotton batik and metallic
shot cottons.

"I Made A Sleeve For My
Quilt"

After
making a sleeve for my quilt, " I made a Sleeve for my Quilt ". The
sleeve is made of pieced velvets, trimmed with lace, gold lame',
cording and ribbons. The tassels are by Lucy Lee. The background is
pieced decorator fabrics. Machine pieced and quilted, hand
appliquéd. |
