CQFA
Contemporary Quilt and Fiber Artists

Welcome
to the CQFA web site. CQFA (Contemporary Quilt and Fiber Artists) is a
group of over 100 artists, living in the San Francisco Bay area, who
are interested in surface design, dyeing, embellishment, fabric
painting, soft sculpture, quilting, and tapestry. (Any technique that
can be
used in art quilts and fiber art feeds our interest.) CQFA was founded
in 1991 by Diana Leone, Virginia King, and Bobbi Finley as
an alternative to the many traditional quilt guilds in the area.
Our Goals:
-
To
meet and create a network with other fiber artists for inspiration and
stimulation.
-
To
find
encouragement within the group, and actively participate by sharing
experiences and education.
-
To
meet
and mingle with local artists working in similar media.
-
To
make
progress toward defining a personal style, while expanding skills and
learning to experiment and grow.
-
To
achieve professional recognition, as a group and individually.
Professional
Events:
CQFA regularly presents members' work in exhibits. The first major
show, held in conjunction with the successful Art Quilt International
'94 exhibit, was called "Fiber Expressions I". It was installed in the
architecturally innovative Mountain View (CA) Civic Center, a fitting
location for the exciting
quilt and textile art on display. That show was so popular that the
city requested more shows be created for the same space:
- "Fiber
Expressions II" in 1997
- "Fiber Expressions III" Fall of 1999
- "Fiber Expressions IV" October 2001
- "Fiber Expressions V" October 2003.
We are presently planning
yet another major exhibit in a venue that will stay open for evening
and weekend viewing.
